“Education is a human right with immense power to transform. On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom, democracy and sustainable human development.”

 Kofi Annan

Education is liberating. It is one of the greatest gifts that we can give ourselves and our children.  Locally, Harper College offers the Promise Scholarship. A minimum requirement to qualify for the two-year scholarship is service to the community. Our Township provides opportunities to local area high school students who need those volunteer service hours to qualify. Details of the service opportunities will be sent to the advisors at Fremd, Palatine, and Rolling Meadows High School. Please have students contact their Promise Coordinator for additional details and specifics required by Harper College.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all who have donated to Palatine Township this past year. We were able to help hundreds of the less fortunate have a favorable holiday season with Thanksgiving baskets, Angel Tree and Adopt-a-Family gifts, toys from the Toy Drive, and monetary donations. Your generosity allows us to help many who may have become more reliant on our State resources.  Our Township residents are the reason for our motto “People Serving People.”  Your ongoing support and contributions are greatly appreciated.  If you know of someone who is struggling, refer him or her to our General Assistance office. They will try to find them the help they need.

We invite you to join us on April 18 for our Annual Town Meeting.  We will continue with our tradition to honor Township military service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice and present awards for our TOPS (Service) and Patriot award recipients.  Coffee and cake will be served.

We continue to seek new ways of helping others and providing services for our residents at low or no costs. If you have new ideas or just want to comment on a Township matter, contact me at sljohnson@palatinetownship.com.

With Gratitude,
