Palatine Township Supervisor Linda Fleming read and then presented a Proclamation at the March 28, 2011 Board Meeting to recognize the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Palatine Township. On January 24, 2011 the Palatine Township Board recognized Kerry Lavelle and Lavelle Law for its many social service contributions to Palatine Township residents.  Lavelle Law has coordinated the Palatine Township annual food drive since 2004 and has generously donated time and effort to make it a successful event each year. Congratulations Lavelle Law.

Every year, the Cook County Commission on Women's Issues chooses 17 women, one from each Cook County District, to receive the Peggy A. Montes Unsung Heroine Award.  These women are recognized for their vital contributions to improving the quality of life in their community.  This year, the Unsung Heroine Award for the 14th District was given to Kristine Stabler.

 Palatine Township Receives Award

Linda Fleming received an award on behalf of Palatine Township from WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger) for the Township's commitment of funds to WINGS after its Resale store on Northwest Highway burned to the ground in 2010.

The Resale store had provided a significant source of revenue to WINGS programs and services and the organization needed to get a store in a new location up and running as soon as possible.  Palatine Township's generosity allowed WINGS to man a donation site in the downtown area for several months so donations to the new store could be received.  "We are in awe of what the community has done to support us," said Terri Channer, Senior Director of Development for WINGS, "and we owe a debt of gratitude to Palatine Township, Fire Department and Police Department.  Palatine has proven over and over why it is such a great place to live."

WINGS helps homeless and abused women and children by offering integrated services that meet their needs for shelter, education, guidance and support.

 Palatine Township Saves Energy

All of us pay a price to consume energy.  We pay to fuel our cars and to heat, cool and light our homes, schools and businesses.  Palatine Township has taken steps to become more energy efficient and save money for the Township.

The Township recently completed a project to retrofit the light fixtures in the office with bullbs and ballasts that use less energy while providing comparable light.  Specifically, inefficient ballasts and T12 bulbs were replaced with high performance, energy efficient ballasts and T8 bulbs which use less energy and have a longer life.

This project was funded in part by a limited-time rebate from the State of Illinois through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

This picture shows the work in progress to ensure the Township will save energy and reduce costs for years to come.

 Environmental Solutions

Palatine Township working together with the Palatine Lions Club offered residents an opportunity to properly dispose of their unwanted electronic items on Saturday, October 29.

The Township is committed to taking care of our planet and was happy to offer this free event to residents before a new law goes into effect on January 1, 2012 that bans certain electronic items from being sent to a landfill.

Residents enthusiastically supported this event bringing electronic items they no longer wanted such as computers, monitors, TVs and batteries to the Township parking lot where volunteers loaded the items for disposal into semi-trailers.

The picture below shows Township volunteers and Lions Club members who sorted and filled three semi-trailers with electronic equipment.  Click here to view the Certificate of Recycling.

Important News for Military Families in Palatine Township

Township's Blue Star Banner Program: supporting military families

Clerk Lisa Moran

The Township launched a Blue Star Banner Program in order to honor military families in the community by presenting them with a Blue Star Service Banner to display in their window.  The authorized recipient (military family member) is invited to attend a Township Board Meeting where they are presented with the Blue Star Banner along with a special Resolution in their honor and beneficial support information.

At these Board Meetings those in attendance watch a video showing the history of the Blue Star Banner.  Each family is then presented with a banner by their mayor or city/village representative and a special Township Resolution presented by Town Clerk Lisa Moran.

If you are a member of military family here in Palatine Township, please click on the link in red above for further details.
